On Jan. 18th 2007 the hurricane Kyrill hit Europe and left vast stretches of timber devastated. 25 million trees were disrooted just in North Rhine-Westphalia. This is a third of the whole European loss of trees.

This used to be a forest. Now it looks like someone's dropped a nuclear bomb. I grew up there and played in this forests when I was a child, so for me (and of course especially for the people who still live there) this is a terrible and appalling thing to see."
